WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2004-07-11
15:03:39 <Doug> walter asked me to run today's meeting. He is having software problems [meeting in session]
<Gord> Hi Doug
<Doug> Hello Gord. Looks like a small crowd.
<Gord> Is it a quorum?
<Gord> or do we need one?
<Doug> I guess so. We don't have much in the way of official business anyway
<Gord> Agenda?
<Doug> Walter wanted us to just continue looking at the site.
<Doug> So there is no agenda
<Gord> How is the site going?
<Doug> I think it is going very well - but I am not exactly unbias
<Gord> What is the URL?
<Doug> http://www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> Ken fixed a small issue last week that was keeping IBM WebEx browsers from getting to the site.
<Doug> I made some changes to the plugin install program to better recognize IBM Web Browsers
<Doug> My list of remaining (major) stuff to do is very small.
<Doug> 1) upload status indicator. Right now when you upload these is no progress indication. If you have a large file or a slow connection it might appear hung.
<Doug> 2) WarpIN file processing. Our version of WarpIN is on the site, but I have to make some adjustments to the CGI program to recognize and serve the WarpIN file differently if the user has the plug-in installed and running and if he has the correct
<Doug> 3) Locking of folders and individual items. With the locking only one person will be allowed to edit the folder list at a time. And we won't allow two people to edit a single item at the same time. There is not much chance of either happening righ
<Doug> 4) Allowing documents to store HTML type information. All the pieces for this are in place already, I just have to figure out how to put the option on the screen - probably a check box.
<Doug> 5) Convert icons to clear backgrounds for IBM WebEx users.
<Doug> 6) put DDE interface in between EPM and plugin, so that EPM can be used to edit HTML text.
<Doug> There are some minor bugs that have to be looked at, but I believe those are listed in the BUGS section of the site
<Doug> I guess it is down to the three of us now.
<Gord> Points 2) and 3) appear to be truncated.
<Doug> oops looks like they are.
<Doug> Point 2 is integrating WarpIN archives into the site. We have a special version of WarpIN I need to submit to the warpin development team
<Doug> This version is modifed so that it can be run by the plug-in. Meaning that when a person clicks on a WarpIN archive file, we can automatically start the install process.
<Doug> There is a feature that will allow the user to designate whether he also wants to save the file on his hard driver for later re-installation.
<MikeG> Hello...
<Gord> Hi
<Doug> Those pieces already exist. I just have to stitch them together in the routine that handles file download
<Doug> Hello MikeG
<Doug> We are having an informal warpdoctor meeting today. Basically just looking at the site.
<Doug> http://www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> Point three is a locking mechanism. Currently the only people that can edit a content item is the owner (the person that created the content item) and site administrators
<Doug> Is is pretty unlikely for both to try and get at the same item at the same time. The locking
<Doug> mechanism will prevent that from happening completely
<Doug> Right now - without the locking mechanism, the last changes made are the ones that get into the database.
<Doug> #5 is easy, but tedious
<Doug> We have about 120 icons that have to be converted.
<Doug> Hello mark
<MADodel> hello Doug
<Gord> Easy and tedious stuff I can maybe help you with.
<MADodel> Where's Walter?
<Gord> Can you send the icons to me?
<Doug> Walter asked me to run today's meeting. He is having software problems.
<Doug> Gord - I would be most happy to send those icons to you.
<Doug> I just recently figured out how to do this in Embellish.
<Gord> OK, With full instructions, please.
<Doug> I will email those today.
<Gord> I think I have Embellish.
<Doug> If you don't, I will put a link on our site for it. Heck - I'll put a link for it on our site anyway.
<MADodel> There is a free version of Embellish on hobbes
<Gord> OK. How about the key for it?
<MikeG> Embellish doesn't need a key.
<Doug> The key is available from the author's site.
<Doug> Oh - I guess that has changed. It has been awhile since I downloaded and installed it.
<Gord> That is news. Last I heard it stil did, but the key was available.
<MADodel> I think it was PhotoGraphics Pro that had a free Key.
<Gord> Ahh!
<Doug> we have about 150 red books knocking around on one of our servers that we need to get input into the database/site.
<MADodel> Its been a long time, and I bought both, so I already had them registered.
<MADodel> About the only OS/2 graphics program I never bought was Impos/2, and I'm afraid to buy it as they always become abandoned after I do.
<KenKrchnr> Hi guys
<MADodel> hello Walter
<Gord> Hi Walter
<Doug> Hi walter - Ken
<WalterOS2> Hi everyone
<MADodel> hello Ken
<Gord> Hi Ken
<Doug> I was saying earlier that Ken fixed a problem we had so that IBM WebEx now works on voice3 (the site)
<Doug> I find it hard not to like WebEx. It is so very fast.
<KenKrchnr> And so very old ;-)
<Doug> Ah - yes it is. And sadly - able to view less and less sites.
<WalterOS2> How about IBW? :-)
<MADodel> Do we get any hits on the site from WebEx?
<Doug> Not before a couple of days ago.
<KenKrchnr> Only thise from Doug :-)
<MADodel> I was looking at the site stats for the Newsletter and it was mostly all IE and Mozilla, and mostly win32 versions of mozilla
<MADodel> :-(
<Doug> Ken - are the stats mark is looking at for WD also, or just for VOICE?
<KenKrchnr> Most of those you see are really webbots
<KenKrchnr> They are for all voice2 served pages
<Doug> They are on 2 different physical machines now aren't they?
<KenKrchnr> The new WD is on the second machine.
<Doug> I know that WebEx is old anot not used much, but we had a specific request to make it work. And backward compatibility is one of the major differences between OS/2 and Windoze
<Gord> Doug, I'm just looking at the page on the plugin. It says I need WarpIn already before I install the plugin.
<Doug> So it just seemed appropriate to accomodate it where we can.
<Gord> Why not put a link to WarpIn on that page?
<Doug> Very Good point. I will do that.
<Doug> Let me upload our version - and I will put a link up right now.
<Gord> I intend to follow the PlugIn page instructions at some point.
<Gord> Soon
<Doug> Good - I am looking for victims/volunteers to test the instructions.
<MikeG> What are the requirements to be a victim?
<KenKrchnr> I think you just met them ;-)
<WalterOS2> Doug: When do you think you will have IBM Web Browser support in the plugin?
<Doug> Asking questions.
<WalterOS2> Doug: I'll try to test the instructions, but I'll have to use Netscape. :-(
<Doug> Netscape will work - it it is just a little ugly at points.
<WalterOS2> What about IBM Web Browser? When do you think you will have support for it?
<MikeG> I'm using Moz 1.7.
<Doug> I am waiting on looking at IBM Browser until the other stuff is done. Partly because there are alternatives and partly because I am not took hopeful
<Doug> Mozilla 1.7 works fine. Mozilla 1.6 does not.
<WalterOS2> IBM Web Browser will not install if there are Mozilla-based browsers present.
<Gord> MikeG - victim must know how to spell kumpyootur.
<MikeG> That might be over my head :)
<Doug> How does it know?
<Doug> IBM - not the victim
<Doug> Mike - there is a plug-in available from the home page that enables you to add content to the site
<MikeG> Well, I have an old K6-2 500 system that I was playing with Solaris and it about to become up try out UPDCD machine. So, it will be getting wiped and reinstalled a number of times. So, before I trash it I would be willing to load browser version X and this plugin... If this would help.
<Doug> plugin only runs on OS/2
<MikeG> That's fine... the UPDCD version will be MCP2 with all fixes.
<Doug> UPDCD?
<Doug> Ok Gord - I put the link to WarpIN on the plugin page. It points to our version that is stored inthe download - software - system utilities folder.
<Gord> OK
<MikeG> I update my MCP install CD with all the fixes for my hack machines -
<Doug> One of my bugs is that the formatting routine that outputs the size rounds off.
<Doug> to the nearest MB
<Doug> So the WarpIN file that is really 1.3 MB is displayed at (1MB)
<Doug> well guys summary of the site at this point is: I think that I have all the database issues addressed now. Which means that I will not be replacing the database on VOICE3 with the development database anymore.
<Doug> Any changes you now put in the site will stay there.
<Gord> Good news
<Doug> Yeah - we can start pounding in content now.
<Gord> Thank you for all your work.
<Doug> Hard for me to believe that I have spent about 3 years on this thing.
<Doug> Or maybe its only 2. I have lost track.
<Gord> Did you learn lots?
<Doug> Yeah I did.
<Gord> So, is that the meeting for today?
<Doug> Yeah - I think we are done. Unless anyone has anything else.
<Gord> Or is there something we should try out?
<Doug> Ken - do you remember where the red book stuff is located on the server(s)?
<Doug> Try out everything. If you find a bug, report it in the BUGS folder.
<Doug> i.e. click on BUGS folder. Find appropriate subfolder - if there is one
<Doug> Click on that folder. Click on the add content icon, type in the information.
<Doug> Hi NielsJ
<KenKrchnr> They're on warpdoctor, []
<NielsJ> Hi Doug
<Doug> Thanks. I will start moving some of those into the database.
<Doug> Niels - we were just looking at the site: www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> The meeting is just winding down
<Doug> If there is nothing else - I say lets adjourn.
<Doug> Aye or Nay?
<Doug> Ah - a decisive bunch. My ESP picks up an Aye out there.
16:08:33 <Doug> We are adjourned. [meeting adjourned]
