WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2004-06-13

12:00:00 -> | ... meeting ... session ...| (by Secretary wdl)
<wdl> Hi Gord
<Gord> Hi
<Gord> Meeting today?
<wdl> Gord: @#%$^&*!! if *I* know.
<Gord> Roderick is not keeping us notified of meetings the way Walter used to.
<wdl> NObody is keeping us notified.....
<Gord> This calls for a e-mail to Roderick.
<wdl> Go for it!
<Gord> How's the Secretary job coming along?
<Gord> Will do.
<wdl> If I had something to secretary-ize, I'd be able to say. I guess that means slow.
<Gord> How are the by-laws coming along?
<wdl> I've not touched them since posting the tentative start.
<Gord> Hi Ken
<wdl> Noone ever commented on the "thrust"
<KenKrchnr> Hi guys
<wdl> Hi Ken
<Gord> Ken, I am working with the majormajor lists on the website. I have a question.
<KenKrchnr> OK
<wdl> Ken, I've a question too.
<Gord> When and how are the lists sorted?
<KenKrchnr> MM shows the members in alpha format.
<Gord> I see the members list is MOSTLY sorted alphabetically but all my changes are appearing at the end.
<Gord> When I do a 'who members' that is.
<KenKrchnr> They get resorted after the list change is completed and the ini program resysncs.
<Gord> How often does that happen?
<KenKrchnr> That happens when you do any changes via ini tool, or the program is restarted.
<Gord> Some changes made by my predecssor and all my changes are still at teh end. :-(
<Gord> Can you force a change via the ini tool?
<Gord> I only have 'e-mail type changes' available to me.
<wdl> Hi Doug.
<Gord> Hi Doug
<Doug> hi all
<Doug> Is is just the 3 of us?
<Gord> so far
<wdl> Humph! So far...
<Gord> 4 of us
<Doug> Oops - sorry Bill.
<KenKrchnr> Let me see, hold on a sec....
<Doug> Is Jeremy real - or is he memorex?
<Gord> He is very quiet.
<Gord> Maybe virtual.
<KenKrchnr> Hmm, the member list is showing up sorted already. I'll have to see if it's the "who" command.
<Gord> Thanks.
<Gord> Ken, how are YOU looking at the member list?
<KenKrchnr> OK, it's the "who" command. It isn't showing alpha sort.
<Rat-Salad> hi... I've just been busy :)
<Gord> HI RS
<KenKrchnr> I used the maillist admin program to look at the member list, there it shows sorted.
<KenKrchnr> Hi Rat
<Gord> OK
<Gord> Hi Mark
<MADodel> hello Gord
<KenKrchnr> brb
<Doug> hi mark
<wdl> Ken: Re emails from admin/major/translate over my "wdlNOT@THISos2voice.org" account...? And/or *posting* to them...?
<MADodel> hello Doug
<Doug> hi jeremy
<KenKrchnr> I'm back, go on Bill
<wdl> Ken: I've tried to unsubscribe from "major" (as we discussed). Can't.
<wdl> ...says I'm not subscribed.
<KenKrchnr> What return email address are you using?
<wdl> ...when I try to post to, say translate, it says the same - and my postings are refused.
<wdl> ...I'm doing some thing wrong.
<wdl> Ken: probably the wrong one. It's my standard "compose" in Mozilla.
<KenKrchnr> It sounds like you have "wdlNOT@THISos2voice.org" as your "From" address.
<wdl> Must I have a separate template? How to do that?
<wdl> Ken "From" = likely.
<KenKrchnr> It should be (for the cases you've mentioned) "Bill Loughman" <secretaryNOT@THISos2voice.org>
<wdl> Is that bad??
<wdl> Ken: "It should be..." ??
<eCSNL> hello
<Doug> hello roderick
<eCSNL> Is there an agenda item import for me ?
<KenKrchnr> The lists you mentioned are set as secretaryNOT@THISos2voice.org for subscriber.
<wdl> Ken: So I *do* need a separate "compose" template/something??
<KenKrchnr> No, you can use one mailbox. Set your from address as "Bill Loughman" <secretaryNOT@THISos2voice.org>,
<KenKrchnr> and your pop3 account address as wdlNOT@THISos2voice.org. The from and the account mailbox are distinct.
<Gord> eCSNL: I don't think so. We are just doing general catching up on news.
<wdl> Ken: Gotcha. Just changed the "From". Will try something with it, later. Thanks.
<KenKrchnr> That should work, we just got Gord set up the same way.
<Gord> Seems to work fine.
<wdl> Ken: Now, ...how do I lose the [major] postings?
<KenKrchnr> Once you have the proper from address the unsubscribe command should work. That's not one of our lists, so it will need to be done via email.
<wdl> Ken: So unsubscribing "secretaryNOT@THIS..." will do what I want *without* scrweing up anyone/anything else??
<KenKrchnr> Yes, from the majormajor list, what other lists do you want to stop?
<wdl> Ken: That's it, so far.
<wdl> Ken: Uh, Thanks, again.
<KenKrchnr> Then it should be fine
<KenKrchnr> Hi Doug
<Doug> hello again
<KenKrchnr> We're done (I think) with the non WD stuff :-)
<Gord> Ken: What is the members list used for?
<Gord> I'm thinking of weeding it down to paid voice members only.
<KenKrchnr> To send emails to the members.
<Gord> Is that all?
<KenKrchnr> It should be active members only.
<Gord> OK, will weed.
<MADodel> Did Peter ever send a list of all the people who renewed/joined at Warpstock last year?
<MADodel> I can't find the receipt book
* eCSNL is afraid he knows the two letter answer to this
<Gord> What date was Warpstock?
<eCSNL> Was it not the 15th and 16th of Oktober ?
<MADodel> I think Roderick is correct
<eCSNL> Now I could be wrong and mixing up the Warp 2002 with 2003 :-)
<eCSNL> Warp=warpstock (sorry working on two computers at the same time)
<MADodel> I should have kept a list of all the people, but I sent all the forms to Peter with the money.
<Gord> If Peter did there should be a group of people in the member database with an expiry date of October, 2004.
<Gord> Checking ...
* eCSNL wonders how pain killers Gordon and Walter have already been taking ?
<eCSNL> :-(
<Gord> There is a group of 13 people who all have an expiry date of 7 Dec, 2004. Could that be them?
<Gord> Painkillers by the bottle.
<eCSNL> How is that possible !?!?
<eCSNL> Is that a specialy Warpstock bonus
<Gord> How is what possible?
<eCSNL> With pain killers I refer to the headache his whole member stuff
<MADodel> Let me check the totals I sent to the Admin list
<eCSNL> is.
<Gord> The member stuff is coming out better now
<eCSNL> But 7th of december of this year ?
<eCSNL> If people paid at Warpstock
<Gord> I have completed notifying all expired members of the database, asking for renewal.
<eCSNL> Why does there VOICE membership run for such a weird amount of time.
<Gord> eCSNL: Expiry date is this year, sign up date was last year.
<eCSNL> From the 16th of October 2003 till the 7th of december !!?
<Gord> Maybe Peter was slow getting them in.
<MADodel> From my report to the Admin list:

<MADodel> [ Bleep! = financial info. ]

<MADodel> SInce the form didn't diffentiate between renewal and new I didn't note that statistic.
<MADodel> He probably just extended her original date of membership by a year.
<MADodel> I'm pretty sure she always renews at Warpstock.
<MADodel> Deos anyone else remember anyone that paid for a membership at Warpstock? Doug and Ken were at the VOICE booth far more then I was.
<MADodel> And Bill was there also.
<MADodel> ;-)
<wdl> Mark: I don't remember anyone by name.
<wdl> Mark: ...and I don't think anyone I signed up was a renewal.
<Gord> There is a group of people whose membership expires on 29 Sept. They are too early to be considered ...
<Doug> considered for what?
<Gord> WarpStock sign ups.
<Doug> heck no! When I subscribe to a magazine they send out renewal notices the next week.
<Gord> Are you saying there is no way to find out?
<WarpedOS2> Gord, can you use the remaining Norman licenses to encourage people to resign up or for new subscriptions
<Gord> I defer to those who were there and have memories or paper records, then.
<Gord> WarpedOS2: We certainly need a membership drive. It is not up to me alone to decide if Norman can be part of that, but I'm in favor of it.
<Gord> There was an idea floated by a lurker a week or two ago about creating a software package to attract members.
<Gord> Was it with Innotek?
<Gord> software
<Gord> Open Office?
<Gord> was mentioned.
<KenKrchnr> Hmmm, I see we have a new version of WD up at www2.warpdoctor.org, has Doug been up to something?
<Doug> yeah - it is mostly running.
<Gord> Good!!!
<Doug> The new version I mean
<KenKrchnr> Is it time to start the Warpdoctor meeting yet? :-)
<WarpedOS2> Is the cheif here?
<KenKrchnr> Doug is WD chief, he's here
<Doug> I think I sent everyone a user id and password. Except I forgot vaughn
<Doug> You will all need the latest version of the plug-in to use the plug-in mode. The icons have changed and are located in the new version

<Doug> [ Bleep! = Technical discussion: WarpDoctor plugin internals/operation... ]
<Doug> [ ...transcript available to VOICE Officers and the Warpdoctor team, from the VOICE Secretary. ]

<Doug> Ooop- I see our time is long over.
<Doug> should we adjourn?
<KenKrchnr> I am back to my old bugaboo, and I can't remember what caused it -
<KenKrchnr> the list of video card mfgrs is empty under plugin mode.
<Doug> I noticed that also a few minutes ago. I think it is a bug that happened when I moved the new version over. I will look at that today or tomorrow.
<Doug> and send out an email when I get it fixed.
<Doug> Sigh....
<KenKrchnr> OK
<Doug> my daughter wants me to take her shopping, so I have to go.
<Doug> See ya all next week.
<Gord> I move we adjourn.
<Gord> But since the chairman has left I guess we are adjourned.
<KenKrchnr> eCSNL, want to take the vote?
<KenKrchnr> Failing that, we still got the Secretary here :-)
<wdl> But for only 3-4 more minutes. ;-)
<KenKrchnr> Then again, I don't believe the meeting was ever called to order ;-)
<wdl> It wasn't.
<wdl> Ken: I'm going to put this meeting up as "Unofficial" and very informal.
<Gord> Ken: Is there a way I can back up treasurer data to the server?
<KenKrchnr> Sounds good.
<wdl> Most stuff would be of interest to hackers, so maybe shouldn't be public.
<KenKrchnr> Also sounds good
14:27:16 -> | ... meeting ... adjourned ...| (by Secretary wdl)
<wdl> Sorry guys, ...gotta go.

-Respectfully submitted, WD Loughman.
