WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2004-05-16
12:05:09 <Doug> I call this meeting of Warpdoctor in session
<wdl> Gord: I have to put a decent header on my own.
<Gord> OK
<wdl> Gord: ...oh well, later.
<Doug> Today's meeting is an open session.
<WalterOS2> :-)
<Doug> Anyone have any issues or concerns to bring up.
<Doug> ?
<WalterOS2> I have one.
<Doug> hello mark
<WalterOS2> What is left to do before we can go live with Phase 1?
<MADodel> hello Doug
<WalterOS2> Hi Mark
<MADodel> hello Walter
<Doug> that is a good question.
<Doug> I have been working on the database to disk interface for the last 4 weeks or so now
<Doug> It has turned out to be a bit more involved that I anticipated. Plus I ended up redesigning a portion of it after it was mostly built, for security reasons.
<wdl> Doug: --> Remind me to tell you about a small problem with the Warpstock 2004 webpage -- before you leave today.
<wdl> Doug: but not now, this minute. ;-)
<Doug> I THINK that there are just a few screens left to finish, and I THINK that they are all derivative of screen(s) that have already been built. It that turns out to be true
<Doug> And I ever completely finish the database->disk file interface,
<Doug> then we are pretty close to turning on phase I.
<Doug> Some of the issues I ran into were: how to allow the files to be moved, copied, etc. without the possibility of ruining files on the server that should not be touched, e.g. CONFIG.SYS
<Doug> So the short answer is: I THINK we are close. (Please don't remember that I have said that many times previously)
<Doug> Any other questions, concerns?
<WalterOS2> Here's a FYI from yesterday's VOICE meeting.
<WalterOS2> Roderick, our new Pres., wants to tighten up ftp access to the server by using SSH protocols. He's especially concerned about critical server files like config.sys
<WalterOS2> It's not that he doesn't trust us; he concerned about hackers who might hijack our IP's.
<WalterOS2> Will that cause you any problems?
<Doug> Let's talk a bit about FTP, and then security in general.

<WalterOS2> You mean non-windows?
<WalterOS2> plugins?
<Doug> Microsoft changes IE to prevent it from running netscape based plug-ins. The plug-in "API" was developed by netscape.
<WalterOS2> Figures.
<Doug> IE runs a bunch of other stuff that does similar stuff to what plug-in do, but it only runs on IE.
<Doug> It is that bunch of other stuff that causes so many security holes. For instance, I understand that IE will run some programs that allow the registery to be modified by a program that is downloaded.
<WalterOS2> !!
<Doug> (On the other hand, a netscape based plug-in can do ANYTHING to a users system, so we don't have much room to talk.)
<MADodel> Doug: After it updates their registry does it put a kickme sign on the user?
<Doug> It ought to.
<Doug> (of course, some could argue that by running windows in the first place, the sign is already in place)
<WalterOS2> Didn't you know that Windows itself is a virus?
<Doug> Ooo - that is a good one!
<MADodel> WalterOS2: Other then it doesn't allow replication of any kind.
<WalterOS2> :-)
<SimpsonTP> any news here guys ?
<wdl> Walter: Damn' near literally. If I have my wife (Win98) just "read" my USB Thumbdrive...
<wdl> ...I get it back unreradable by my system. :-(
<wdl> "unreadable"
<Doug> Bart - we are having an open session this meeting. We were just discussing security, which was started by talking about FTP
<WalterOS2> Doug: Did you have any more you wanted to say about security.
<Doug> No
<Doug> Are there any more questions or concerns?
<Doug> If not we can adjourn and here about how Bill got ECS to run on his machine
<SimpsonTP> Doug: okay
<Doug> here = hear
<SimpsonTP> I have not much news either, ecs 1.2 is under heavy beta testing
<SimpsonTP> should be out end of the month, with a lot of new standard goodies, but its 3months late, thats concerningme
<Doug> better late and right, and on-time and messed up.
<Doug> and=than
<WalterOS2> Agreed
<SimpsonTP> yeah, but we tend to get a habbit out off that, which is BAD
<wdl> Bart: Put in A more-generally useable DANIS506.ADD !!!
<SimpsonTP> wdl: which is ?
<wdl> Bart: Wait one...
<SimpsonTP> ?
<Gord> wdl: what is date of good driver?
<SimpsonTP> ah you mean a more recent version ? right now we have latest and greatest which is reported to support serial ATA
<Doug> Lets adjourn and here about Bill's storey. Do I hear a motion? (hand to ear)
<Gord> I move we adjourn.
<Doug> all in favor type aye
<wdl> All: The one working for me one three machines (previously no-install)...
<Gord> Aye
<wdl> ... is that inside danis506r137.zip
<wdl> Aye
<Doug> all opposed?
<Doug> we are adjourned. Bill...
13:11:05 -> ... Meeting ... adjourned ...
