WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2004-04-18

11:59:39 <Doug> so here goes - this meeting is now in session
[ NB: Walter had asked Doug to chair this meeting... ]
<Doug> does everyone have the adgenda?
<wdl> No.
<Doug> agenda is at http://www.warpdoctor.org/Agendas/warpdoc_2004-04-18.html
<Doug> (I don't know how to make it appear in the title bar of the IRC client)
<Doug> item A.1 Old business - status on the plug-in?
<Doug> which I guess is me....
<Doug> I have finished with the DB2 UDF (user defined functions) for linking disk files to the database.
<Doug> This turned out to be a bit more involved than I though it would be.
<WalterOS2> Isn't that always the way?
<Doug> I am now making changes to the existing screens to incorporated minor changes to the database that resulted from the UDF work.
<Doug> Yes - it seems to be the case more often than I would like to admit.
<Doug> There are about 3 more "content types" that need input screens in order to be complete with the whole thing: HCL / SCL / DOCS
<Doug> hcl = hardware compatibility, SCL = software compatibility, DOC = documentation.
<Doug> The HCL and SCL screens are very similar to the driver screens and I have already made those modifications but have not tested them yet.
<Doug> The document screen(s) will be different and I will have to build those from scratch.
<WalterOS2> :-(
<Doug> questions?
<Doug> item A.2 - where are we with this whole thing?
<Doug> well ... I guess that is also me again.
<Doug> The sequence I think is: 1) get the plug-in finished for data input,
<Doug> 2) start putting data in
<WalterOS2> Doug: This is one quiet room today. :-(
<Doug> maybe I am talking too much
<Doug> 3) at some point, turn it loose on the public
<WalterOS2> That's a problem I sometimes have.
<wdl> Noooo. *Lovely* voice!
<WalterOS2> However the only other person who seems to actually be here is Kris.
<Kris> Yes, I'm here.
<WalterOS2> Sorry, Bill.
<wdl> 's'ok. I'm used to it.
<WalterOS2> Doug: Do you need us to help test the HCL and SCL screens?
<Doug> we are still at point 1. I thought that we could start putting data in while I was making some of these changes, but the changes to the UDF were more extensive than I thought they would be, and I have to those done before we could put anything in.
<WalterOS2> OK.
<Doug> Walter - what I am sure will happen is: when we start to use the screens we will discover that there are things I didn't think of, or implemented incorrectly, that need to be changed.
<WalterOS2> <g>
<WalterOS2> Hello Niels
<Doug> hello niels
<NielsJ> Hej, sorry for being late. I didn't see an announcement of tonights meeting the usual places
<WalterOS2> I sent the announcement out, but I'm not sure people received it. I know I didn't, and it didn't show up on VOICE NEWS.
<WalterOS2> Gremlins, I guess. :-)
<Doug> Since I don't have much to show in the site, do you want me to describe the DB2 to disk file interface?
<Doug> Or would you rather wait and see the movie?
<wdl> ...See the movie.
<Doug> ok - item B.2.1 What to do with VOICE1
<Doug> Need to find a friendly place.
<Doug> Walter - could you describe where this is at please?
<WalterOS2> wdl: Can you cut and paste the motion from the log yesterday?
<WalterOS2> Doug: it's almost a done deal.
<wdl> Hang on...
<WalterOS2> In principle anyway.
<WalterOS2> I recently upgraded my connection to what I call "server-class"
<WalterOS2> New contract specifically allows for server with 3 mbps download and 640 kbps upload.
<WalterOS2> I hope TTW hasn't dumped Bill. :-)
<NielsJ> That sound great. My local ISP just change the deal from 128 up/512 down to 512 both ways and unlimited traffic.
<wdl> Backfield in "motion":
<NielsJ> What is TTW?
<Doug> top tapping wife
<Doug> toe tapping wife
<WalterOS2> Bill started using it when his wife came into the room, indicating she wanted to use the computer.
<WalterOS2> Bill: Having trouble with getting it?
<wdl> ---> We should probably have a motion to the effect that if Roderick and Ed Scrutton are unable/unwilling to host VOICE1, then Walter will host it at his location. First, however, it will be sent to Ken's for hard drive exchange and reconfiguration. Then Ken will ship it (one way or another) to Walter for final installation.
<wdl> <wdl> OK, I so move.
<WalterOS2> Hi Mark
<Doug> hello mark
<MADodel> hello Walter and Doug
<Doug> Who is Ed Scrutton?
<WalterOS2> He's a VOICE member who runs a travel business in Windsor Ontario.
<Doug> I assume the motion passed?
<WalterOS2> Since he runs a business, he probably has server capability.
<WalterOS2> Doug: yes
<Doug> Is there are chance that Roderick would host a server?
<WalterOS2> I've emailed Ed twice, but haven't received a response. Most unusual for him.
<WalterOS2> Doug: he has mentioned that he thought Mensys would if the load isn't large.
<WalterOS2> Ken thinks the load would be trivial.
<WalterOS2> There is the question about how/if we would ship some drives.
<WalterOS2> Anyone know where Ken is, anyway?
<WalterOS2> Mark: Do you have an email address for Ed?
<KenKrchnr> I know where Ken is :-)
<Doug> hi ken
<wdl> Ken: Where??>?
<KenKrchnr> Sorry I'm late.
<MADodel> Walter: yes. I'll look for Ed's email
<WalterOS2> I just ran across an old message from Ed. Seems we've asked him this question already. Here's his response:
<WalterOS2> Hello: Allison's Travel has a 1.5 MB ISDN connection via Wincom.net
<WalterOS2> a subsiduary of Primus Canada. They host our website on their server
<WalterOS2> near the Windsor Airport. So I don't think this is a solution to a site
<WalterOS2> for the server. I would think that someone in the NY to Baltimore
<WalterOS2> corridor would be best so that whomever is in technical control could
<WalterOS2> get from one site to the other if necessary .... even though both sites
<WalterOS2> may be OS/2 experienced.
<Doug> Looks like it is down to Roderick and Walter then.
<WalterOS2> Yep.
<Doug> Did the voice meeting assign anyone to contact Roderick to see what he response would be?
<Doug> (if he wasn't attending that is)
<WalterOS2> Yes: me
<WalterOS2> I had aleady emailed him but didn't get a response.
<Doug> ok - I'm sure it is too early to get a response back yet.
<WalterOS2> Forget my last message.
<WalterOS2> :-(
<WalterOS2> I haven't emailed Roderick yet.
<MADodel> Sorry Walter I can't find Ed's address, though I must have it here somewhere.
<WalterOS2> He popped into the meeting yesterday, but didn't stay long enough for me to ask him the question.
<WalterOS2> Mark: it's OK.
<Doug> Lets move on to B 2 2. Status of VOICE web site changes.
<Doug> would that be ken?
<KenKrchnr> What changes?
<MADodel> The polling feature?
<Doug> Ooops - my inner voice tells me that is an agenda malfunction
<Doug> Sorry.
<KenKrchnr> Well, that's not public yet.
* MADodel erases hi comment
<KenKrchnr> If the item means the eCS banner stuff, we're waiting for user input :-)
<Doug> The next item is B 2 3 - Access and test of the new WD site
<KenKrchnr> Maybe "he who made the agenda" can enlighten us as to its meaning?
<WalterOS2> Ken: "he who made the agenda" was function way below par that day. :-(
<WalterOS2> functioning
<KenKrchnr> :-)
<Doug> there will be no unction for the malfunction
<Doug> The wd test site is www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> That address is "stable" and you don't need to change your host file to access the site.
<Doug> I haven't checked today, but it is normally always up and running.
<KenKrchnr> It's running
<Kris> http://www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> yes sir http://www2.warpdoctor.org
<Doug> 3. Other Business......
<Kris> I am a lazy bugger: just want to click :-)
<Doug> ?
<Doug> oh - on the address in the IRC client?
<Kris> Yep. Lazy I am. :-)
<Doug> are you using the Java based client?
<Kris> I'm using mozilla 1.7b
<WalterOS2> Which invokes the Java IRC client. :-)
<Kris> Which java irc client????
<WalterOS2> Doug: WD site looks good.
<Doug> thanks
<Doug> If there is no more "official" business - I would entertain a motion to adjourn
<WalterOS2> Kris: I believe it's an IBM one that comes from DevelopWorks. (?)
<wdl> Move to adjourn.
<Doug> all in favor type aye
<wdl> Aye.
<NielsJ> Aye
<WalterOS2> Aye
<KenKrchnr> Aye
12:55:51 <Doug> meeting is adjourned.
