WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2004-02-15
12:26:06 <WalterOS2> I guess this meeting has actually been in session, but now I'm making it official.
<Doug> I'm from the US - we don't know anything about geography
<WalterOS2> Only one country that's important, right? LOL
<WalterOS2> I guess now there is another one--Iraq
<Doug> California is on the left - New York is on the right. What else is there?
<WalterOS2> LOL
<Doug> The reason I am asking is: I am trying to put together a proposal for WarpStock 2004 in Colorado.
<WalterOS2> Hi Chuck
<Doug> I am told the european's have fall break around Oct 23. I was wondering if that was consistent across europe
<Doug> ?
<WalterOS2> Doug--what city do you live in?
<chuck> hi
<Doug> I live in Littleton, which is a suburb of Denver
<jep> Doug: Last week
<WalterOS2> OK, thanks.
<Doug> Jan - so that is the last week of your fall break also?
<WalterOS2> Let's talk about XPager.
<WalterOS2> Chuck and Jan will have missed this.
<WalterOS2> I've contacted a friend of mine (IRL, even!) who is an eCS developer, asked him for his help with XPager, and he's agreed to do so.
<WalterOS2> Doug, can you get Alex as much material as you have ASAP?
<Doug> yes - I will send him all that stuff today or tomorrow
<WalterOS2> What do you think about a private chat with the three of us?
<WalterOS2> Do you think that would expedite matters?
<Doug> Great Idea - tell me when.
<WalterOS2> OK, I'll let Alex know and give him a few days to digest the material.
<Doug> It would probably be a good start. Maybe we ought to send out the stuff first,
<Doug> agreed
<WalterOS2> You should probably send him some info on the Rexx plugin.
<WalterOS2> But I don't want to bury him. :-)
<Doug> I send him EVERYTHING
<Doug> almost EVERYTHING
<WalterOS2> Can you send him a summary of the plugin?
<WalterOS2> send or sent?
<Doug> a summary of EVERYTHING
<WalterOS2> Care to elaborate?
<Doug> :)
<Doug> I'll send a summary of the plug-in, point to the plug-in, and the stand-alone program that causes the problem on my machine.
<Doug> point = url so that he can download it
<Doug> when we chat he will tell us what else he needs, if anything
<WalterOS2> Make sure you tell him what you want to the plugin to do. :-)
<WalterOS2> You've probably covered that in your summary.
<WalterOS2> better than one, any day.
<WalterOS2> Anybody have any questions, ideas, about XPager?
<Doug> are there any other products out there that do what xPager does?
<WalterOS2> I don't think so.
<WalterOS2> I just remembered something. I told Alex at one our meetings about XPager. He told me tried it, and now can't imagine how he ever did without it.
<WalterOS2> That may help as well.
<WalterOS2> I've already told him about Homepage Publisher not working with it.
<WalterOS2> OK, let's move on to Warpdoctor in general.
<WalterOS2> What's the current status, Doug, apart from the XPage problem.
<Doug> The current plug-in has a problem with one of the input screens - topics. I have been working at it but don't have it fixed yet.
<WalterOS2> Doug: What are the problem's symptoms?
<Doug> crashes the browser. Ouch
<Doug> There is one particular topic that causes this. Other topics/pages that use the same screen do not cause the problem.
<WalterOS2> Which topic?
<Doug> The help for the URL/File List screen
<Doug> If you edit the topic, and make a change (any change) and try to save it back, BOOM
<Doug> Other topics are ok.
<WalterOS2> Can I access the new WarpDoctor now?
<Doug> I don't know yet if it is some kind of buffer overrun, if the encoding of the text has a bug, or what.
<WalterOS2> Sounds like fun!
<Doug> At least the problem is very consistent, so it will be easier to track down
<WalterOS2> Yeah.
<Doug> And FireBird/Mozilla crash so nicely!
<Doug> unlike Netscape 4.61 - which has a tendency to lock up the machine
<WalterOS2> I've got this problem on my main computer where the Monitor or adapter crashes every so often.
<WalterOS2> But it's so inconsistent, there's no hope of finding it. It sometimes crashes several times in a day; other times it can be weeks between crashes.
<WalterOS2> Grrr!
<Doug> Access WarpDoctor now? Yes. You shouldn't see any problems just looking at stuff.
<WalterOS2> It's been better lately though. :-)
<WalterOS2> URL?
<Doug> www2.warpdoctor.org
<WalterOS2> Might have known!
<Doug> well - you will see problems, but not this one
<WalterOS2> www2.warpdoctor.org?
<Doug> oops - looks like www2.warpdoctor.org is not responding.
<WalterOS2> I noticed :-)
<Doug> is Ken here?
<WalterOS2> Not unless he's changed his ID.
<Doug> There is a KenLBL8 signed on. Is that THE Ken?
<WalterOS2> Yep.
<WalterOS2> I just did a "Who"
<WalterOS2> Ken: We need you!............................
<WalterOS2> KenLBL8: Are you here?
<Doug> let me try and DTOC in
<WalterOS2> OK
<Doug> no joy - I can't ping the site either.
<WalterOS2> I've emailed Vaughn, so I hope he'll drop in.
<WalterOS2> Ken must have broken it. VBG
<WalterOS2> Hope one of Ken's fixes didn't break.
<WalterOS2> Didn't he say that server was in his *office*?
<WalterOS2> Doug: Oh well, anything else you can tell us about WD?
<Doug> yes he did. So if he has to do something physically with the machine, we are out of luck until Mon or Tues. Monday is a holidy here for most of us.
<WalterOS2> What are you celebrating?
<Doug> It's called President's Day - combined Washington and Lincoln birthdays.
<WalterOS2> They didn't have that when I lived in the States.
<Doug> Yeah - they used to celebrat one or the other - depending on where you were. Since they were both born in Feb the Feds combine that into one holiday
<Doug> I don't remember when that happened though.
<WalterOS2> Doug: One last question: Has anyone (besides you) tried to actually input day into WD?
<WalterOS2> Or is it not ready for that, yet?
<Doug> You can input drivers into it now.
<WalterOS2> Gord: Are you still here?
<Gord> Yes
<WalterOS2> Have you tried putting any drivers in?
<Gord> No
<WalterOS2> Could you try for us--once it's up?
<Gord> OK
<Doug> Niels has the whole DDK that needs to get input. I have to look at what is involved in that and then setup some way for him to input it.
<WalterOS2> Gord: Do you have a userid and password?
<Doug> I suspect we might need to setup some batch input method for that.
<Gord> No
<WalterOS2> Sound like it; that would be an awful lot of typing, otherwise.
<Doug> I need to send eveyone their user IDs and passwords again. I will try and get that done this week.
<WalterOS2> Doug: I need a userid and password as well. How do you want to do that?
<Doug> I will just send everyone a user ID and password. You can change the password in JS or Plug-in mode.
<Doug> So you can change the password to something that makes more sense to you
<Doug> I think I have everyone's email address.
<WalterOS2> Doug: I'll have them for any you don't. Just let me know if you need anyone's email address.
<Doug> I have spent most of my time this week onthe WS proposal, so I haven't done much on WD
<WalterOS2> tsk tsk VBG
<Doug> WS will probably take most of my time next week too, then it will be over with for awhile.
<Gord> Doug: Is there anything I can do from here to help on the WS proposal?
<wdl> All, FYI: DDK = 188,969,088 bytes in 63 files. That from the recent "discontinued updating" IBM site.
<wdl> All: ...some are duplicates.
<Doug> Gord - I will send the proposal to you to proof-read, if you want to do that.
<Gord> OK
<WalterOS2> Actually, I'm really glad you've decided to see if you can to host WS. :-)
<Doug> I will also need some help putting on the event. Stuff like getting presentations together, etc.
<Gord> Me too
<Gord> Do you have help there?
<Doug> I have 3 guys that said they would help. One has backed out already though
<WalterOS2> :-(
<Doug> Most of the stuff that needs to be done here at this point in time is almost done.
<Doug> When we get closer to the event, I will need bodies.
<Doug> I would like to get a forum or something set up ontheWS web site so that people that want to travel together or share a room can do so.
<Gord> Sounds good.
<WalterOS2> I see Ken is back. :-)
<Gord> Hi Ken
<KenKrchnr> Hi guys
<WalterOS2> Ken: Did you read about our little problem with WD?
<KenKrchnr> I just started going thru the scrollback, let me check
<WalterOS2> Anyway we can't connect with www2.warpdoctor.org
<WalterOS2> We all seem to waited with baited breath for Ken. :-)
<WalterOS2> waited=waiting
<wdl> Walter: "baited" = "bated" <g> The other might be smelly?
<WalterOS2> wdl: I consider myself duly rebuked. (g)
<WalterOS2> I've made that mistake before, and I still haven't learned apparently.
<wdl> Walter: Sorry... Couldn't help myself. One of my little fetishes...
<Gord> Actually, wdl, that is probably more of a compulsion than a fetish. LOL
<wdl> Gord: A little of both, actually. Though...
<KenKrchnr> Well, it's running. But I can't get to it from outside.
<Gord> Walter, wdl caught me on the same mistake you just made.
<WalterOS2> LOL
<WalterOS2> I doubt I'll make the mistake again: I did a little research in my Concise Oxford Dictionary.
<WalterOS2> Bated means restrained...So with bated breath means with your breath held..or "anxiously"
<WalterOS2> :-)
<Gord> Thnx
<WalterOS2> The reason I kept making the mistake was that I was unfamiliar with the word "bated".
<wdl> Walter: short for "abated"
<WalterOS2> Now that I know what it means, hopefully that will help me use the right word. :-)
<WalterOS2> wdl: What are you? An English Prof?
<WalterOS2> I thought you worked with genetics.
<WalterOS2> :-)
<wdl> No. Genetics. But I was educated early by nuns (got no steeeenking bad spellers in *my* class).
<wdl> And later by Augustinians - who brook *no* mispalling in *any*thing.
<wdl> "Argh "mispalling" = Mis-spelling"
<WalterOS2> I used to be an excellent speller--even won contests; but that ability seems to slipping away. :-)
<wdl> ...or someh=\thing like that. ;-)
<wdl> Ouch - fat-finger nsunday?
<WalterOS2> Not good when I am supposed to be a writer. :-(
<wdl> "Sunday!!!
<WalterOS2> nsunday?
<wdl> I was up far far too late last night.
<wdl> Or residual aphasia...
<WalterOS2> Ken: Have you figured out what's wrong with voice3? (www2.warpdoctor.org)?
<WalterOS2> Yeah--I really suffer the next day if I stay up too late.
<Gord> Is there any more business to conduct?
<WalterOS2> Ken: Time lock on your office door? :-)
<Gord> I have to go soon.
<KenKrchnr> OK, try now
<WalterOS2> I did want to talk about the old VOICE server and maybe test Warpdoctor some more.
<WalterOS2> However, we seem to be out of luck.
<Gord> I can get to the site now.
<WalterOS2> OK, it's up now.
<WalterOS2> We need userids and passwords to really do much.
<WalterOS2> We can end the meeting now if you guys want to.
<wdl> I'd prefer. TTW, y'know.
<WalterOS2> TTW??
<wdl> TTW = "toe-tapping wife"
<WalterOS2> LOL
<wdl> She's early today.
<WalterOS2> Someone want to make the motion?
<Gord> Motion to adjourn.
<WalterOS2> All in favour of adjourning, please type Aye.
<Gord> Aye
<wdl> Aye.
<Doug> aye
<chuck> aye
13:49:30 <WalterOS2> The motion is carried. Meeting adjourned.
