WarpDoctor - General Meeting for 2003-06-08
15:20:22 <WalterOS2> This meeting of Warpdoctor is now in session.
15:22:10 <WalterOS2> You can find the agenda at http://www.warpdoctor.org/agendas/warpdoc_2003-06-08.html
15:22:55 *** The topic for #warpdoctor is: Warpdoctor meeting in progress: Agenda can be found at http://www.os2voice.org/membership.html
15:23:51 <WalterOS2> I'll give you a minute to download and look at the agenda. :-)
15:24:25 <Doug> is there a command for listing who is currently "logged on" to the meeting?
15:24:53 <Doug> Or better yet - a list of IRC commands?
15:25:00 <WalterOS2> With Gammatech client, it's displayed in the right-hand column.
15:25:21 <Doug> I'm using ezIRC
15:25:22 <WalterOS2> Clicking on "Help" gets you all commands.
15:25:38 <WalterOS2> I don't know about that client.
15:25:47 <WalterOS2> Anyone else know?
15:26:02 <KenKrchnr> try /names
15:26:18 <Doug> /names works
15:26:24 <Doug> Thanks
15:27:04 <Gord> It works in GTIRC too. It opens a small window with the list of names.
15:27:05 <Doug> But there can be people in the meeting that don't show up in the /names list can't there?
15:27:20 <wdl> For what it's worth: I'm unable to connect with http://www.warpdoctor.org/agendas/warpdoc_2003-06-08.html .
15:27:29 <Gord> I can't either.
15:27:52 <KenKrchnr> Try http://warpdoctor.easydns.us/agendas/
15:27:54 <Doug> Call meeting to order. Make sure someone is taking the log. 1. Old Business 1. Updating HCL. 2. New Business 1. Status of Voice2 1. What further testing is required? 2. Current Status of DB2
15:28:14 <wdl> Or connect with http://www.warpdoctor.org/<your choice> .
15:28:36 <Doug> I got it from http://www.warpdoctor.org/agendas/warpdoc_2003-06-08.html
16:38:55 <WalterOS2> OK, let's tackle 2 or 3 items on the agenda, now that everyone can see it. :-)
16:39:19 <WalterOS2> A1: Upating HCL
16:39:39 <WalterOS2> What did we decide last week about this?
16:40:08 <WalterOS2> I know we said we wouldn't worry about competing with other OS/2 sites, like Jonas'.
16:40:19 <WalterOS2> Was that it?
16:40:28 <Gord> Don't think we decided anything.
16:40:59 <WalterOS2> OK, Doug, what needs to be done on the form?
16:41:12 <Doug> nothing.
16:41:35 <Doug> The form that I am/will be - working on looks very similar to wdl's example
16:42:20 <madodel> I'm back
16:42:32 <WalterOS2> OK, Bill and Gord, could you work on collecting as much new information as you can? New drivers, devices, etc.?
16:42:40 <WalterOS2> Hi Mark
16:42:53 <Gord> Yes
16:43:15 <madodel> I found that in the latest omni driver there is a txt list of all .the drivers it supports. We should enter all those in
16:44:17 <madodel> Probably the same for the LaserJet and PostSCript drivers as well but I haven't checked those since I only have inkjet printers
16:44:25 <WalterOS2> And on the Online Driver support site, there are additional drivers (from Japan, mostly) that should be included.
16:44:45 <wdl> "collecting as much": OK.
16:45:20 <WalterOS2> LaserJet and PostScript are in the Omni driver, at least for HP. I have a HP LaserJet 1200.
16:45:34 <WalterOS2> Thanks a lot.
16:45:37 <WalterOS2> :-)
16:46:14 <WalterOS2> We'll have to strong-arm some help when it comes times to enter this stuff into the form.
16:46:21 <Doug> Guys - I envision two different hardware related "areas" on the site:
16:46:23 <Doug> 1) HCL
16:46:26 <Doug> 2) Drivers
16:46:47 <WalterOS2> Go on...
16:46:51 <Gord> If I get clear instructions I can start entering.
16:46:52 <wdl> How can you separate the two? Why would you do it?
16:47:10 <Doug> HCL is oriented to a specific piece of hardware, such as matrox millenium
16:47:31 <Doug> the driver section lists drivers that are produced from companies.
16:48:01 <Doug> A single piece of hardware, like a matrox card, can use 2 or 3 different drivers, from completely different companies
16:48:21 <wdl> But, but, but... Some hardfware works with some drivers - rather specifically for *some* people.
16:48:33 <Doug> In the case of matrox: from matrox, from SciTech and from IBM
16:48:44 <WalterOS2> I thought this could be handled using indexing within the database.
16:48:52 <wdl> ...and the Matrox drivers (on *my* machine) aren't so good as the SDD drivers.
16:49:05 <Doug> It is - but the information that is/should be entered for each is different
16:49:17 <Doug> Take wdl's comment for example:
16:49:39 <Doug> Matrox driver works great with their cards unless you are using VAC 4.0 or PMview
16:49:58 <Doug> and some versions of the matrox driver don't work with Sybil
16:50:25 <Doug> The HCL entry has a BIG area for storing comments that describe all these "gotchas"
16:50:57 <Doug> IT also lists all the drivers - list here meaning a reference to the driver entry and file - that work with the hardware
16:51:34 <Doug> The entry in the Drivers "area" for matrox would list Matrox as the maker or manufactorer, and all the versions that are available
16:52:08 <Doug> There is more than one instance where a single piece of hardware has drivers available from completely different companies
16:52:18 <WalterOS2> I think that at our next meeting (June 29), we should set aside a chunk of time for Doug to describe the layout of the database, and how he sees stuff arranged therein.
16:52:33 <Doug> And more than one instance where a single company makes more than one driver for completely different types of equipment.
16:53:13 <wdl> "...BIG area for storing comments...": OK. That was my concern. The "gotchas".
16:54:37 <WalterOS2> Doug: Maybe you could prepare a document describing the layout of the database, and email it to the group. (Attachments work again for warpdoctor.)
16:54:41 <Doug> Since we will have a driver entered once in the database, but potentially referenced multiple times from different areas of the site, I envision using "shadowing" to make the "links" between where the item really lives, and where it is referenced
16:55:13 <Doug> ok - i'll do that this week
16:55:21 <WalterOS2> Thanks!
16:57:13 <WalterOS2> OK, we have time for one more.
16:57:38 <WalterOS2> B1: New Business: Status of VOICE2
16:58:03 <WalterOS2> Ken, could you give us a quick status report on the new server?
16:58:26 <KenKrchnr> Voice2 has been up and running for 2 weeks.
16:58:47 <KenKrchnr> I changed the disk spec a bit.
16:59:05 <WalterOS2> Has all the data been transferred from VOICE1?
16:59:17 <KenKrchnr> Instead of the 9G SCSI and 40G IDE we have a nice new 36G SCSI.
16:59:44 <KenKrchnr> Services running now (though only as test) -
16:59:53 <KenKrchnr> Apache 2.0.45
17:00:02 <KenKrchnr> Weasel Pro 1.64
17:00:14 <KenKrchnr> Major Major
17:00:36 <madodel> Do we have a method of backup for it?
17:00:37 <KenKrchnr> FTP Server 1.15
17:01:08 <KenKrchnr> I have several methods, because the server is behind our firewall -
17:01:40 <KenKrchnr> I can add it to our nightly backup schedule here which does 2 copies of working dataset
17:01:51 <KenKrchnr> one onsite, one off
17:02:09 <KenKrchnr> We can also backup to voice1 once we switch over.
17:02:18 <WalterOS2> What methods are you using to backup the dataset?
17:02:45 <KenKrchnr> Across the network, to one other server in our building, one next door.
17:03:18 <WalterOS2> Thx
17:03:20 <KenKrchnr> I will also burn a base set dvd once the server is ready to go live, then incremental from there.
17:03:31 <Doug> ken - sounds great
17:03:44 <Doug> Do you, per chance, have DB2 running yet?
17:04:02 <KenKrchnr> Yes, but only the base installation has been checked.
17:04:18 <WalterOS2> I do a number of transactions directly to VOICE1 using ftp on a regular basis. Others probably do as well.
17:04:20 <KenKrchnr> I will need to see if you can access remotely to administer.
17:04:42 <WalterOS2> Are these going to be "caught" and copied to VOICE2?
17:04:44 <Doug> OK - I'll contact you in the next week or two and we can try it out.
17:04:47 <KenKrchnr> All ftp, mail, ssh accounts are active on voice2
17:05:33 <KenKrchnr> You can use xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as the ip address to test whatever access you had on voice1.
17:05:48 <madodel> IS DTOC running on VOICE2?
17:05:52 <KenKrchnr> For ftp, the drive layout is somewhat different.
17:06:04 <KenKrchnr> Yes, DTOC is running.-
17:06:38 <KenKrchnr> that one I had to reinstall, Jeremy will need to setup whatever access users had before.
17:07:08 <KenKrchnr> for dtoc - use xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx (xxxx is the port dtoc will respond on)
17:07:28 <Gord> Hello
17:08:09 <Doug> back again Gordo?
17:08:17 <KenKrchnr> Jeremy and I have done as much testing as we can. If anyone else is interested we'd appreciate the input.
17:08:36 <Doug> Sounds like you guys have done alot.
17:08:37 <KenKrchnr> But you'll need to modify your "hosts" file ;)
17:08:46 <Gord> Yes
17:09:17 <KenKrchnr> It is running live for irc.fyrelizard.com since last week.
17:09:18 <madodel> I get a time out message trying to access xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx
17:09:49 <KenKrchnr> hang on a sec -
17:11:07 <WalterOS2> I can't access http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx either.
17:11:10 <KenKrchnr> dtoc is definitely running, I'm internal now so can't check the external address. See if ftp connects for you.
17:12:18 <WalterOS2> Ken: When I upload the agendas and logs to VOICE1 using ftp, will I also have to add them to VOICE2?
17:12:30 <WalterOS2> add=upload
17:12:45 <KenKrchnr> I pick up all that stuff in the nightly update.
17:12:55 <WalterOS2> OK, good.
17:13:43 <KenKrchnr> Mark, does your ip end in .119
17:14:45 <madodel> Honestly no idea. I'm on my wireless laptop using a wireless router. I can check, but have to go to dinner.
17:14:48 <KenKrchnr> err, .113
17:14:58 <WalterOS2> OK, it's getting late, so if someone wants to adjourn, I'm ready.
17:15:02 <KenKrchnr> I show that ip as connected to dtoc right now.
17:16:05 <madodel> yes the ip ends with 113
17:16:21 <madodel> Well it never connected here for DTOC or FTP
17:16:37 <KenKrchnr> OK, after we end I'll go back to dialup and see what happens.
17:16:44 <Gord> I move we adjourn.
17:16:56 <madodel> Gotta go. No one wanted to cook tonight so its Perkins for dinner. :-)
17:17:21 <Doug> aye
17:17:36 <WalterOS2> All in favour, please type Aye.
17:17:37 <madodel> aye
17:17:43 <Gord> aye
17:17:46 <wdl> Aye
17:17:54 <KenKrchnr> Aye
17:18:14 <WalterOS2> All opposed, please type Nay.
17:18:34 <WalterOS2> Motion is carried. Meeting is adjourned.
